Water filters work very well. As in, water pipes.

I bought a few filters for a great website. You can cut to size and add it to your stick-on air flaps with Velcro. By the way I have in the registers, it does not look ugly. You can put inside or outside. They change every three months or less, depending on how often you run your air. Here is the website:
